    I like it already better than the Canon S3 IS we have. The indoor low light shots are incredible. The depth of field you get with it is just amazing and you can see it in the viewfinder. It's going to take getting use to looking through a viewfinder (like riding a bicycle?) but I'm excited about this camera.

    Main reason its better is because it uses a much larger sensor. Almost any DSLR out there will wipe the floor with the current crop of compact digitals. If you like low light shots, try a Canon Rebel XTi/20D/30D/40D and you'll be even more amazed.

    Newer dslrs are coming out with live view, so if looking through the viewfinder bothers you, you'll be able to upgrade later to something more accommodating.

    Have fun with your new camera! So did you REALLY get the camera for your wife, or did you just use it as an excuse to get yourself a new toy? :)

    This kind of off topic, but I just got a new chair from office max today and I was amazed by the level of detail in the instructions. the hardware and tools to put the thing together were even in a vacuum formed package separating each of the different bolts. So, the relevance, you are right some of these instructions go to the EXTREME. It even has a warning on the bottom of it telling people not to use it as a step ladder!!!

    Thanks Bruce. I should have talked to you before buying probably! We were pretty set on the Nikon, which was a big switch cause I've always been partial to Canon. Couldn't beat the quality/price thing from what we saw. The liveview would be cool, but I don't mind looking through the viewfinder so much. Reminds me of the old days.

    I will be using the camera of course, but really, no lie, it's for her. :)

    btw Bruce, wish I could make some comments on your site, those pics are great. The aquarium shots are great. That 'ninja' pic is funny! I think the dancing guy on Yarborough and I-10 should be in his Santa costume about now!

    What settings do you use for low light? Your colors look amazing.

    If you read the labels of some items there are ridiculous statements on them. But my experience says there are people out there that can mess-up an anvil with a fly swatter. There is a paperback out with a list of labels on things…very funny. And you know some out there had to do what they warn you about. Very scary; makes you wonder if breathing and eating weren’t involuntary……
