SolidSmack Goes Comment Crazy, Uses Disqus Commenting System

Started by Josh M · 11 months ago

You may start to see some changes around the trusty ol’ SolidSmack site. For one, I’ve integrated the Disqus commenting system into the site. Sound fancy? It is, and it’s got some cool features… ... Continue reading »

  • Testing 1...2...3
  • I like the new commenting system already. If it works well, I hope some of the other SW bloggers will adopt it. Once again, Josh is on the move trying new technology and ideas.
  • Thanks Rod. I tested out several and decided to go with Disqus. I was going to start using it a while ago but they have an import feature that will be launched soon that sealed the decision.

It would be great if some of the other bloggers pick it up also. Alex Ruiz (SWGeek) uses Intense Debate, which is similar, but I prefer Disqus for the feature listed above.
  • After posting some comments with the new Disqus commenting I have made up my mind about it.
It is much better than the previous system you had. I really like the comment threading and indentation to keep up with everyone's comments. Looking forward to future improvements from Disqus!
  • Excellent Rod! Thanks! I'm liking it a lot too. seems to promote more conversation and makes it interesting to find out a little more about people by seeing their avatar or links to their sites.
  • I definitely agree that the conversations are going up. 20+ comments alone
on the interface post. I like the direction it is going!
  • I see that Alex Ruiz has now switched to Disqus also. It seems that you must have a secret cunning plan to get everyone to switch. Were you the one behind the "unsuitable" comments at Ricky Jordan's site?
  • Yeah, were all taking the comments over. :) I'm glad they have switched. We
can see who commenting on each others blogs. It really adds another layer of
inter connectivity to the blog community. I'm not sure about the unsuitable
comments on his site. I must have missed something!
  • LOL! Didn't realize the "unsuitable" description would cause such a stir. :-)

One of the reasons I switched to Disqus was to cut down on SPAM comments. I had a few making it through to the site, but had a TON to moderate in my Wordpress Admin panel. All has been much better in this area since I switched to Disqus. I LOVE IT so far!
  • This looks pretty slick dude... I can't wait for the first video comment - that's going to genius..
  • Could be you Al... Go get yourself a webcam man! Alas, I do not have one either.
  • How easy is it to theme the disqus plugin?
  • You can use CSS to style the disqus comments however you like.
  • Hi! just add a comment by replying to this one or writing in the box below. Video comments can be made below as well.
  • Nice!
  • Cool. I like there avatar uploading mechanism. It will be interesting to see how the video comments play out. I've noticed a few blogs using seesmic and people seem to lose interest after a while. It's nice to have options though...
  • I've got a webcam in my macbook, but there's not a cat in hell's chance I'm using it - I'm a text jockey and nothing more.. AHAHA
  • ok testing.
  • Bummer, doesn't show up at work. Blocked... Gotta wait 'til I get home to comment
  • Was a good read. I'll be back for more.
